Lecturer in Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh, later became the first Regius Professor of Anatomy at the recently formed University of Aberdeen.
His daughter Christina married Frederick Niecks (1845-1924), another, Jane, to Simon Somerville Laurie (1829-1909).
