Sir Alexander Grant (1826-1884) was Principal of Edinburgh University from 1868 to 1884. He was instrumental in setting up the university's new Medical School and in organizing the university's Tercentenary Festival in 1884. In that year he also published The Story of the University of Edinburgh during its First Three Hundred Years, still the most authoritative history of the university.
