Norman MacCaig (1910-1996) was one of Scotland’s best-loved and most influential poets. He read Classics at Edinburgh University, graduating in 1932 and trained as a primary teacher at Edinburgh Provincial Training Centre. MacCaig was Edinburgh University’s first Writer in Residence (1967-1969) and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University in 1983. Edinburgh University Library holds a major collection of MacCaig manuscripts amongst its Scottish Literary Papers.
