Charter of Novodamus under the Great Seal (the seal itself is not present). This Royal Charter, signed by James VI of Scotland on 14 April 1582 gifted old ecclesiastical revenues to the burgh of Edinburgh to be used to establish a college. It is thus the enabling charter that led to the opening of Edinburgh University in October 1583. This item is on permanent loan from Edinburgh City Council (Edinburgh City Archives, 'Historical Charter Number 65'). EUA GD4
