Journalist and writer on Africa

From the mid 1950s to the mid 1980s Colin Legum reported Africa for the Observer, and researched and recorded the current state of Africa many monographs as well as in the series of volumes which have been published as the "Africa contemporary record" (1968/1969- ); the Library's set can be found at Ref. .9(6)058 Afr.

In 1988 Mr Legum donated to the Library the bulk of his working archives, adding a further tranche of material in 1991. It is a magnificent source of contemporary information on Africa and her member states, much of it from Africa itself, as they developed after the Second World War, mostly from colonies to independent states.
