Born in 1594, Robert Douglas was a graduate of the University of St. Andrews. He served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland five times and refused the Bishopric of Edinburgh as he did not accept episcopacy and was thereafter minister at Greyfriars and Pencaitland.

He was appointed Rector of the College in 1649. In 1651 he officiated at the coronation of Charles II at Scone. he died in 1674.
