Noel James Entwhistle (1936- ) held the Bell Chair of Education at Edinburgh University from 1978 to 2003. He is currently Professor Emeritus at Moray House School of Education.

Entwhistle succeeded Liam Hudson (1933-2005), having previously served as Director of the Centre for Educational Research and Development at the University of Lancaster. He was followed in the Chair by Robert Leslie Lingard (1948- ).
