A lectureship in Geography was created in 1908 and a Chair in the Faculty of Arts in 1931.
First lecturer was George Goudie Chisholm (1850-1930) who held the post until 1923 (was one of the first Lecturers to hold the post of Reader: check dates). He was succeeded as both Lecturer and Reader by Alan Grant Ogilvie (1887-1954). When the Chair was created in 1931 Ogilvie was the first appointee.
