The Business School in the [[College of Humanities and Social Science]] was founded in 2002 as part of a [[Reconstitution of Faculties into Colleges, 2002|major restructuring]] of Edinburgh University. This saw the the university's nine Faculties reconstituted as three Colleges, while Departments were reorganised and replaced by Schools. The subject areas covered in the new Business School had previously been taught within the [[Faculty of Social Sciences]].
