Alexander Monro "primus" (1697-1767), was the first Professor of Anatomy at Edinburgh University (1720-64) and founder of Edinburgh Medical School. He was the first of three generations of Professors of Anatomy of the same name. His collection of anatomical preparations was donated to the university by his son Alexander Monro ''secundus'' and formed the basis of its Anatomical Museum.
