Alexander Runciman (1736-1785)

In 1772, the influential Scottish painter Alexander Runciman (1736-1785), best-known for his Ossian's Hall at Penicuik House, was appointed Master of the Trustees Drawing Academy, the forerunner of Edinburgh College of Art. Remaining in post until his death in 1785, he taught major Scottish artists such as Alexander Nasmyth (1758-1840)mand George Walker (fl. 1781–1815).
