John Mylne (1611–1667), Master Mason to the Crown of Scotland and to the Town of Edinburgh, built a house for the Professor of Divinity and lodgings for six students in 1656, with funds supplied by Bartilmo Somerville who endowed the Chair of Divinity in 1639.
