Alexander Douglas (d. 1692) was Professor of Hebrew at Edinburgh University from 1681 to 1690 and a major donor to Edinburgh University Library.
Described as 'student of theology', Douglas was appointed Professor of Hebrew and Oriental Languages in 1681, and held the Chair until 1690 when, with the Principal and three other professors, he was expelled from the University by a Committee of Visitation for refusing to take the oath of allegiance to King William III. At his death in 169 the College Library received 104 of his books, which were handed over by his brother, minister of Saltoun. He also left to the College the sum of 225 merks, being a quarter's salary which was due to him from the College.
