Delacour was either born in France or in Great Britain to French parents. From 1740 he was active as a portrait and landscape painter, and as a designer of theatrical scenery. Having settled Edinburgh, he was appointed the first Master of the Trustees Academy when it [[Foundation of Trustees&amp;#039; Drawing Academy, 1760|opened]] in 1760, remaining in post until his death in 1767.&lt;br /&gt;
