Marian Cooke (fl. 1946-1970) was educated at Edinburgh Ladies College, which became the Mary Erskine School. After completing a secretarial course there, she worked in a legal office for two years before joining the administrative staff at the [[Edinburgh Provincial Training College]] (later [[Moray House College of Education]]). She later became secretary to [[Sir Godfrey Hilton Thomson (1881-1955)]], Director of Studies at the College and holder of the Bell Chair of Education at Edinburgh University. Following Thomson's retirement in 1951, she remained secretary at Moray House until 1970.
