James Moultrie (1702-1771) was the father of [[John Moultrie (1729-1798)]], the first US-born graduate of Edinburgh University. Also an alumnus of Edinburgh University, he emigrated from Scotland to South Caroline where he was both a successful general practitioner and indigo planter. His son followed in his footsteps by graduating in [[Medicine]] in 1749.
