Bruce Stenhouse graduated from the [[University of Edinburgh]] with the degree of MA in 1936. During the Second World War he joined the Royal Artillery, achieving the rank of Captain, initially commanding an anti-aircraft battery in the Firth of Forth, and later seeing other active service in North Africa and Italy. After the War hereturned to his old School, The Edinburgh Academy, where was appointed first as Secretary of the Academical Club (1946--1965) and later as Registrar (1950-1976).&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr Stenhouse maintained his interest in military history, especially maritime and naval history and the history of coastal defence. After his death in 1991 Mrs Jean Stenhouse presented to the University Library her husband&amp;#039;s collections of papers and books on naval history and coastal defences.
