John Moultrie (1702-1771)

James Moultrie (1702-1771) was the father of John Moultrie (1729-1798), the first US-born graduate of Edinburgh University. Having qualified M.D. at Edinburgh, James Moultrie emigrated from Scotland to South Carolina where he was both a successful general practitioner and indigo planter. His son followed in his footsteps by graduating in Medicine from Edinbrgh in 1749.
