The Chair of Classics was created in 1987, as a successor to the previous Chairs in [[Greek]] and [[Humanity]]. At the same time, a newly created Department of Classics brought together the pre-existing Departments of Greek, Latin, and [[Classical Archeology]]. Since major restructuring of Edinburgh University in 2002, Classics has been part of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology in the College of Humanities and Social Science.
