Alexander Douglas (d. 1692) was Professor of Hebrew at Edinburgh University from 1681 to 1690 and a major donor to [[Library|Edinburgh University Library]].
  
 
Described as 'student of theology', Douglas was appointed [[Hebrew|Professor of Hebrew and Oriental Languages]] in 1681, and held the Chair until 1690 when, with the [[Principal]] and three other professors, he was expelled from the University by a Committee of Visitation for refusing to take the oath of allegiance to King William III.
