Lawyer and bibliophile

Alan Stark graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1933 with the degree of Bachelor of Law and became a member of the Law Society in 1939. A partner in the Edinburgh law firm of Morton, Fraser and Milligan, he was a bibliophile and book-collector.

In 1988 his family presented to the University Library over 1,500 volumes from his personal library; many of these books were published in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s and include notable illustrated editions and private press books. The collection is held in Special Collections and is gradually being catalogued. The records are in the main online catalogue.
