Laurence Charteris (c1625-1700) was Professor of Divinity at Edinburgh University from 1675 to 1682. He was the son of Henry Charteris (c1565–1628), the former Principal and Professor of Divinity. He resigned his post when required to swear the test oath which would mean acknowledging the Catholic James, Duke of York and Albany (the future King James VII and II) as head of the Church of Scotland on his succession to the throne.
